Home Tuition

What is home tuition?

Home tuition places students with carefully selected local families, who provide accommodation, meals, and a genuinely immersive English-language environment. It is one of the most effective — and most distinctive — forms of language learning provision available.

Articles – Good topics for articles include anything related to your company – recent changes to operations, the latest company softball game – or the industry you’re in. General business trends (think national and even international) are great article fodder, too.

A different kind of language learning

In a standard language school, students live in shared accommodation or homestay with other learners. They study in class during the day and return to an environment where English is one language among many. The learning is real, but the immersion is partial.

Home tuition is different. The student lives as a member of a host family's household — typically the only student in the home — and receives one-to-one or small-group tuition from a qualified teacher, often the host themselves. English becomes the language of daily life: breakfast conversations, evening meals, weekend activities. The classroom and the home are the same place.

For students who want rapid progress, a quieter and more personal environment, or a genuinely local cultural experience, home tuition offers something no school building can replicate.

Why language schools add home tuition

A distinct product in a competitive market

The language school market is crowded. Home tuition offers something genuinely different — a product that cannot be replicated by a competitor simply opening a new classroom. Schools that offer it stand apart from the majority of their peers.

Access to a different student profile

Home tuition attracts students who would not choose a standard school environment: younger learners whose parents want a supervised, family setting; adults seeking intensive one-to-one progress; students with specific accessibility or welfare needs; and high-net-worth clients for whom a premium, personalised experience is the expectation.

Higher margins per student

Higher margins per student

Because home tuition is a premium product — and because the cost base is structured differently from a school with fixed premises — it typically commands higher fees and can deliver stronger margins per student than group tuition.

Year-round flexibility

Strengthening agent relationships

Higher margins per student

Home tuition programmes are not constrained by term dates or classroom capacity. A school can take bookings throughout the year, respond to short-notice requests, and scale up or down without the overhead implications of a physical school estate.

Agents who place students in home tuition programmes value schools that can offer both group and individual options. A school with a credible home tuition product becomes a more complete partner for agents — and a more attractive one.
